About

Dr Abhinandan (“Rocky”) Chowdhury is a toxicologist and Research Fellow at the University of Queensland’s School of the Environment. His research integrates bioanalytical methods with toxicology, with peer-reviewed work on blood-clotting pathways and venom toxicology, plus collaborations that bridge academia and industry. Drawing on this foundation, Dr Chowdhury focuses on exposure-based risk assessment for topical products, including sunscreens, where he evaluates ingredient bioavailability, human-health endpoints and environmental considerations. He is part of the Australian Sunscreen Council’s Expert Group, contributing to science-led standards, regulatory engagement and public education on sunscreen safety and efficacy—especially around UV filters. He holds training across biotechnology, analytical bioscience and toxicology, enabling a practical approach to product stewardship and consumer protection.
